Carcassonne Heritage Days 2024

A Journey Through History

On September 21 and 22, 2024, the European Heritage Days drew thousands of visitors to Carcassonne, offering them a chance to explore its rich historical treasures. The event provided full immersion into the history of the Medieval City, with guided tours of the ramparts and the Basilica of Saint-Nazaire, where visitors admired its renowned Gothic stained glass windows.

Exclusive Openings and Rare Discoveries

Sites that are usually closed to the public, such as certain towers and underground passages, were exceptionally opened for this occasion. In the Bastide Saint-Louis, private mansions and exhibitions at the Museum of Fine Arts were also highly popular, offering a unique glimpse into the artistic history of the region.

Local Crafts and Interactive Activities

Traditional crafts demonstrations, such as blacksmithing and stone carving, amazed both young and old. Fun workshops for children and treasure hunts made the event enjoyable and accessible for the entire family.

Nature and Local Gastronomy

Alongside the historical tours, guided walks through the vineyards and along the Canal du Midi allowed visitors to discover the natural beauty and local wines of the region, rounding off a culturally rich weekend.

A Successful Edition

This year's Heritage Days once again highlighted the importance of preserving and promoting local heritage. Carcassonne offered a true immersion into its history, attracting culture enthusiasts and families alike.
